16.1 Installing ID-Synch on a proxy server

16.1.1 Preparing an ID-Synch proxy server

The SETUP program on the ID-Synch server will produce a file called PSYNCHSETUP.INF. Copy this file to each proxy server, in the same directory from which you will run the SETUP program on the proxy server. This file will speed up proxy server configuration, as it will provide correct default answers to each prompt during the proxy server setup. You can also specify a file by running SETUP from the command line with the -inf $<$filename$>$ argument.

SETUP.EXE will copy over all base required files, including agent programs, list utilities. This step is recommended but not required.

A ID-Synch proxy server needs the same client programs that the ID-Synch server would use for each type of account that it will manage.

Proxy servers need a static IP address and DNS name.

16.1.2 Installing the software

To install ID-Synch on a proxy server, run SETUP and select ID-Synch proxy server on the Add/remove ID-Synch components page. Enter the following information in the series of dialog boxes:

  1. Create instance:

Type a unique name for this instance of ID-Synch. For example, name instances instance, instance1, instance2

  2. License agreement:

Read the license agreement and click Accept.

  3. Set directories:

  4. Configure proxy service:

The ID-Synch server can copy its updated configuration to the proxy server nightly. The server copies any files that are required to run agents and list utilities.

The setup program installs a proxy service on the proxy server. The service listens on a TCP port, which the ID-Synch server contacts to initiate replication. Specify the port number.

The proxy service runs as the psadmin user in the same way as the ID-Synch server. Specify the password for this user.

  5. Security key:

Network communication between ID-Synch components is protected using a secret encryption key. Enter the same key here as you did on the ID-Synch server.

Next:
Once it is installed, configure target systems that will use the proxy using the Central console (nph-psa.exe), and update the proxy to copy the necessary agents and files from the ID-Synch server.
