7.3 ID-Synch server setup
After running
SETUP , enter the following information to set
up the ID-Synch server:
- Create instance:
Type a unique name for this instance of ID-Synch.
For example, name instances instance, instance1, instance2
- License agreement:
Read the license agreement and click Accept.
- Set directories:
Enter the:
- Program directory in which the software will be
installed. The default entry is
C:\Program Files\P-Synch\<instance name>\
- Directory to store log files for this instance. The default is
C:\Program Files\P-Synch\Logs\<instance name>.
| Note: |
|
This directory should be unique for each instance.
|
|
- Directory for all instances to share lock files. These
lock files are written by ID-Synch agents to prevent client servers
from communicating with the target while it is in use.
The default is c:\Program
Files\P-Synch\Locks.
You can use the Central console (nph-psa.exe) to change this later by modifying the
PS LOCK DIR on the Target options configuration page.
- Configure ID-Synch services:
|
More detailed information
is available in the complete manual shipped with
the ID-Synch software.
|
- Set web server directories:
Enter the following as required:
- Web server document root directory--
ID-Synch attempts to determine the default setting
for the directory from which your web server accesses static
documents and executes CGI programs.
- iPlanet website--
If you are using an iPlanet server, ID-Synch prompts you to select the
profile on which ID-Synch will run.
| Caution: |
|
ID-Synch makes changes to the
iPlanet configuration. Ensure that you are not logged in to the
iPlanet administration web site. The next time you log in to the
iPlanet administration web site, it may warn you that its configuration
files have been manually edited. Be sure to apply the changes to
the running web site before making any other modifications.
|
|
- Virtual directory for cgi-bin directory-- The default value
is the name of the instance, or idsynch, for the instance named "default".
- Replace default web page with the index page for this
instance. Leave this box checked if you want to replace the
default web page with the index page for this instance.
The index page automatically redirects users to the Front-end authentication module (nph-psf.exe)
- Help desk application login information:
Type a ID-Synch administrator login ID and password to access
the ID-Synch administration facility on the web.
| Note: |
|
Be sure to remember this password. You will have to use it
to log into the Central console (nph-psa.exe)
|
|
- User for web access:
Type a password for the PSADMIN account, which
the SETUP.EXE program automatically sets up as a
ID-Synch user for services and as an anonymous user for the web server.
- Security key:
Network communication between ID-Synch components is protected
using a secret encryption key. Define a key (a random value
is presented by default) on the ID-Synch server. The same key must
be applied to all other ID-Synch components on the network.
Setup copies the necessary files to the ID-Synch server and
displays the Installation progress. When setup completes,
a message is displayed.
- Click Ok on the message box.
- todo.txt and browser:
After the ID-Synch server software has been installed,
SETUP.EXE displays
the TODO.TXT file. This file contains the security key entered
in the previous screen, and any steps that the setup program failed
to complete and need to be performed manually.
Your default browser opens to the ID-Synch Central
console login page so that you can finish configuring ID-Synch.
7.3.1 Adding alternate instances
You can manage one or more ID-Synch instances. For example,
you can have ID-Synch instances representing target systems and
users in different geographical regions, or have separate instances with
different password rules for different sets of users or clients.
Use the SETUP.EXE to install alternate instances.
SETUP.EXE will detect
that you already have an instance of ID-Synch installed, and presents
you with a list of instances. Click Manage next to the name
of the instance to add or remove components for the instance,
upgrade or install patches for the instance, or remove the instance.
Click Install new to continue to install a new instance.
